Types Of Aerobic Exercise

There are many types of aerobic exercise. This is one of the best ways to burn fat and get lean and you have a lot of exercise options for this type of activity. Here’s how aerobic exercise helps you and some suggested activities to help keep you lean and trim.

What is Aerobic Exercise?

This type of exercise is beneficial to your heart and your entire cardiovascular system. You will use large muscle groups over an extended period of time and you will also gain some muscle mass but not as much as if you were lifting weight. This type of exercise will get you lean but it won’t pack on much muscle although there will be some definition to your body over time. You want to find an activity that you enjoy doing so you keep at the exercise. You’ll only benefit if you perform an activity for a long period a sit can take time to get into shape.

Aerobic Exercise

Walking

The easiest aerobic exercise you can start out with is simple walking. This is an activity that most people can do no matter what your physical shape or exercise history. This exercise will help you get into shape but it will be a slower progression which is perfect for those that are seriously out of shape. Walking should be done at about 20-30 minutes and then longer once you get active.

Jogging/Running

It’s recommended that you start out with slow jogging before you begin to run. For example, you can jog around a track and then as you improver add in some running alternating with jogging for best results. Running and jogging are excellent aerobic activities that will help you get into great shape. Take it easy at first if you have never jogged before and don’t run until you are ready. If you are out of shape and heave questions you should talk to your doctor first.

Swimming

Another great aerobic activity is swimming. This gives you a good all over body workout and it’s also easy to do for most people. You don’t really feel like you’re exercising when you swim but it’s a great way to get into shape because the water gives you some resistance as you swim.

Cycling/Biking

Another perfect aerobic activity is to take up biking or cycling. This exercise is great for exercising your lower body and for helping you get better cardiovascular health as well. Most people enjoy biking so this is a good activity to add into your lifestyle.

Dance

Another great aerobic activity is to take up dance. This can burn a lot of calories and it’s also quite fun to do. This is another activity that really doesn’t feel like exercise at all.

Stair Climbers and other Stationary Machines

If the weather is poor outside many aerobic exercise activities be performed inside. For example, a treadmill will allow you to walk, jog, or run and a stationary bike allows you to go biking.

Aerobic activity can help you burn calories and get into shape and it’s recommended that you aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at least 3-4 days per week. So your doctor before you begin if you have any health questions or concerns.
