Weight loss becomes a major cause of concern if it occurs during pregnancy. So, surely it needs medical attention as it can affect the growth of the baby in the womb of the mother. Generally, every mother prefers to loose weight as soon as possible after pregnancy in order to get back into her previous vital stats. For this reason, they start to keep a check on their diet and loose all the weight gained during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, the major cause for weight loss is eating wrong diet and becoming ill. Certain foods increase your risk of becoming ill and can cause pregnancy weight loss and for this reason, a check on the diet becomes essential.

Meat- Improper cooked meat can cause growth of bacteria and thus weight loss. This leads to food poisoning and thus diarrhea where the body looses all the fluids. For those who like to consume raw meat, then it is a strict no this practice during pregnancy months. Delicate meat can act a source to listeria and so it should be avoided as it leads to bacteria accumulation causing listeriosis. Listeriosis is a rare infection which makes easily targets pregnant women and can lead to early delivery, infection to the womb and may cause premature or ill growth of babies. Fever, chills, muscle aches, diarrhea and upset stomach are usually observed during this illness period among pregnant women and one needs to be extremely careful during this period.

Seafood- Raw fish contain bacteria, parasites and tapeworms and thus it leads to good poisoning if consumed. So, always ensure that you cook these sea food sources very well and then consume. Fish contain low mercury content and are rich in omega 3 content. So, consuming Atlantic salmon, canned tuna, mackerel are recommended and avoid prawns and shrimps on a compulsory note.

Dairy products- Dairy foods when consumed by normal people prove healthy, until they are consumed as per a diet chart. Raw boiled eggs can contain salmonella bacteria and is not good during pregnancy. Cheese, unpasteurized milk should be avoided. Ghee can be consumed to a certain extent. Ice creams can be consumed if they were packed very well. Intake of chocolates and other sugar based substances need to be as per a diet chart as they can lead to diabetes during pregnancy and thus it can lead to weight loss.

It is preferable to take non-vegetarian food once or twice in a week and to rather maintain a vegetarian diet. Intake of fresh fruits like apple, oranges, honey and banana is necessary. Avoid papaya, pomegranate, and berries as some can prove fatal to the baby. You can eat all kinds of vegetables and it is better to eat for every 2 hours in small proportions. Eating chocolate when you go out for shopping or indulge in strenuous activity is recommended.
